We recently received a press release from Night Shade Books, announcing that they had “joined forces with World Fantasy Award-nominated magazine Electric Velocipede, and, like a pair of steam-powered metal titans joined together to form a mighty behemoth, the pair plans to march forward in unison, changing the genre fiction battlefield for the better.”
When we asked EV founder John Klima exactly what this meant, he replied “Night Shade is the publisher of EV. They pay for it, distribute it, and handle all the back end finances, and help with production. John Klima is the editor in chief of EV, and retains full control over the contents, format, and design.”
The twice-yearly small-press ‘zine publishes science fiction, fantasy, and cross-genre stories, and the taste of the content won’t change. Klima has only ceded responsibility for the business end of the publication.
Marking the change in back-room work, Night Shade is offering a subscription bonus for new and renewing EV subscribers: any two in-print Night Shade paperbacks or trade hardcovers. New subscriptions will start with the double issue numbered 15 and 16. The offer expires 8 January 2009.
For more information, and to subscribe, see this page. We listed the contents of the double issue in this article in July.
