Fantagraphics is publishing Kim Deitch‘s Pictorama this week. Underground cartoonist Deitch is already the creator of Shadowland (published by Fantagraphics) and the Pantheon graphic novels Alias the Cat and Boulevard of Broken Dreams. Now, he’s teamed up with all his siblings (including Simon, Seth, and Gene) to produce a unique, all-new “picto-fiction” pocket book. “Alternating between heavily illustrated near-comics stories and outright prose, Pictorama is a testament to the entire Deitch family’s amazing yarn-spinning abilities.”
Celebrating the release, Deitch will give a Power Point presentation telling the story of how the book came to be. The presentation will also include a dramatic reading of his story “The Sunshine Girl”, performed by Deitch and artist Pamela Butler. The presentation and reading will be at New York City’s The Strand Book Store (828 Broadway at 12th street) on Thursday 18 September at 7:00PM.
For those who can’t attend, the Strand is offering pre-orders of the book to be signed at the event. See this page for more details. Also, the event will be webcast on strandbooks.com/tv.
