WorldCon is On! How’s it going?

Denvention 3, the 66th World Science Fiction Convention, officially starts today. The convention will have multiple tracks of programming running nearly continuously through Sunday, with Guests of Honor Lois McMaster Bujold, Rick Sternbach, Tom Whitmore, Wil McCarthy, and Kathy Mar.
Those of us who aren’t attending are hoping to live vicariously through those of you who are. So if you’re at the con, please comment to let us know what’s going—who’ve you met, what fascinating things have you done, what interesting conversations or incredible views have you had—share your WorldCon experience with the rest of us. And if you’re not in Denver, but you’ve got memories of past WorldCons, or thoughts of the present you’d like to share, feel free. Comments are open (see below, and remember, commenting still qualifies you to win the Masters of Science Fiction DVD, whether you’re at the con or at home). We’ll also take links to your WorldCon comments on your own blog.
(We’ll start another one of these pages each day.)

Isn’t this rather early for a Worldcon. North American ones are usually held over Labor Day weekend, unless there’s a compelling reason not to (as in 1998, when Bucconeer couldn’t get the Baltimore convention center for that weekend and had to move it up a month).
I haven’t been to a Worldcon since 2003, and I wasn’t paying much attention so I don’t know why this one is early. Anyone?

D’oh! (Shoulda realized that! Seeing as how I’m a lifelong registered Democrat and all…)
    Thanks.

Yeah, sometimes it’s strange, how completely disconnected different parts of my life are. When I see someone I know really well in (for instance) science fiction at a non-science fiction convention, I sometimes don’t recognize them at all: “You’re in the wrong part of my life!” Same thing with WorldCon: who would think of it in connection with a political party’s convention?
