Author John Ringo, in support of his new novel, The Last Centurion, is embarked on a national radio tour, during which he’ll be discussing “Who will rescue this country in case of a global disaster?” and explaining “how your vote can keep us from catastrophe.” He expands on that provocative intro to say “The 2008 presidential elections are just around the corner. As we saw with the hurricane Katrina and 9/11, whoever is at the helm of this nation does affect disaster response. Imagine a true, global catastrophe happened in the United States. Which of these candidates would guide us safely out of harm’s way, and which is more likely to make terrible, if well intentioned, decisions that further lead this country into disaster?”

an absolutely essential discussion long overdue in american public discourse. after katrina, we can’t be sure that fema and state/local disaster teams are prepared for a localized crisis, let alone something that affects the entire usa or the world. in fact, we can be pretty sure that the government isn’t prepared for a major crisis and isn’t actively doing anything about getting prepared.
