Science Fiction Awards Watch (SFAW) is reporting that the Chesley Awards, originally scheduled to be handed out tonight, will not in fact be awarded, as the balloting has yet to take place. The Chesleys are the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists (ASFA)‘s annual award, for which we announced the nominees in this article. The awards are usually given out at WorldCon, but SFAW reports that “the ASFA committee has not been able to get a ballot together in time to allow members to vote, and have the votes counted, in time.” Balloting will instead be done after WorldCon, and the winners will be announced online.
And in the “nipping claims of incestuous reporting in the bud” department, we note that the two SFAW articles immediately preceding their Chesleys piece are based on data from SFScope. It’s award season, and not every award committee sends a press release to every site. We share when we must. It happens, but rarely, and we’re happy to be a part of the community.
