Top Box Office Grossers: Second Week of July

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 11-17 July 2008. New release Hellboy II: The Golden Army pushed Hancock out of the top spot. Hellboy raked in $46.4 million. Hancock, down to #2, grossed nearly $45.5 million for a two-week total of more than $177.5 million. Another new release, Journey to the Center of the Earth, shows up in the #3 spot, with a box office gross of $31.2 million. WALL-E fell from #2 to #4, bringing in $28.4 million for a three-week total of $172.7 million. Wanted fell from #3 to #5, taking in 17.8 million for a three-week total of $118.2 million. Get Smart was down from #4 to #6, taking in $11.1 million for a four-week total of nearly $115.5 million. Kung Fu Panda fell from #5 to #8 (the new Eddie Murphy film Meet Dave, debuted in the #7 spot), bringing in $7.0 million for a six-week total of $204.8 million. The Incredible Hulk fell from #6 to #10, grossing $3.6 million for a five-week total of $131.1 million.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull finally fell out of the top 10, dropping from #8 to #11, bringing in $3.4 million for an eight-week total of $311.6 million. Iron Man is still flying strong, falling only from #13 to #14, taking in $1.4 million for an eleven-week total of $313.9 million. The Happening fell from #12 to #17, grossing $650 thousand for a five-week total of $63.6 million. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian was down from #15 to #18, bringing in nearly $425 thousand for a nine-week total of $139.5 million. The Strangers fell from #19 to #24, grossing more than $275 thousand for a seven-week total of $52.4 million. Speed Racer fell again, from #20 to #25, taking in more than $250 thousand for a ten-week total of $43.6 million.
Nim’s Island fell from #22 out of the top 25 in its fifteenth week in release.
