Write John Sclazi hate mail; win a copy of his Your Hate Mail Will Be Graded

Subterranean Press will be publishing the new edition of John Scalzi‘s Your Hate Mail Will Be Graded: A Decade of Whatever 1998-2008, a ten-year retrospective of the author’s popular blog Whatever. Publication is expected to be in mid-September, to coincide with the actual date (13 September 1998). The book will collect “some of the best and most popular Whatever entries over the history of the blog.” Subterranean will be publishing a hardcover edition limited to 1000 copies (at $35 each), and 26 traycased, lettered copies (at $250 each) signed by both Scalzi and Wil Wheaton, who provides the introduction to the book. Pre-orders are being taken from this page.
To further involve the readers in the book, Scalzi is running a “Hate Mail” contest. To enter, he says “write a particularly choice piece of hate mail to me, about me.… Make it good—and by good, I mean, really nasty. But in a creative way. Just mere profanity won’t do. Make it memorable. Make it worthy of my time. Make me give it an ‘A’ for its overall excellence in the form. Make it good enouhg, in fact, for us to feature in the book. The winner of the contest will be lovingly enshrined on the book jacket, while up to five additional finalists will have their contributions printed in the back of the book. And all six will get a copy of the book for their very own.”
Contest deadline is 25 June 2008. Full details (including the fact that entries must be posted as responses to this blog post) are in this Whatever blog post.
