Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 9-15 May 2008. Iron Man continued to kick ass for its second week, taking in more than $64.6 million in the US this week, for a two-week total of $191.3 million. New release Speed Racer opened in the #3 spot (behind comedy What Happens In Vegas), grossing $22.2 million. The Forbidden Kingdom dropped from #6 to #8, grossing $2.9 million, for a four-week total of $49.3 million. Nim’s Island was down from #7 to #8, taking in $1.7 million for a six-week total of $44.7 million.
Prom Night dropped out of the top 10, from #8 to #11, grossing $1.2 million for a five-week total of $43.0 million. Horton Hears a Who was down from #11 to #14, taking in more than $750 thousand, for an nine-week total of $150.9 million. After dropping out of the top 25 last week, 10,000 B.C. jumped back in, rising from #28 to #20. It grossed more than $400 thousand this week, for a ten-week total of $94.1 million.
After last week’s return to the top 25, The Spiderwick Chronicles appears to have ended its twelve-week run in the theaters.
