Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 2-8 May 2008. Blockbusting new release Iron Man took in more than $126.6 million in the US in its first week. The Forbidden Kingdom dropped from #4 to #6 in its third week, grossing $5.4 million dollars, for a three-week total of $46.4 million. Nim’s Island was down from #5 to #7, taking in $3.1 million for a five-week total of $42.9 million. Prom Night dropped from #6 to #8, grossing $2.8 million for a four-week total of $41.8 million.
Horton Hears a Who finally dropped out of the top 10, from #10 to #11, taking in $1.6 million, for an eight-week total of $150.1 million. The Spiderwick Chronicles popped back into the top 25 after dropping out in the first week in April. This week, it made its way back up to #25, grossing more than $250 thousand, for a twelve-week total of $71.2 million.
Superhero Movie, The Ruins, and 10,000 B.C. all dropped out of the top 25. Superhero Movie fell from #15 to #26 in its sixth week in release. The Ruins went from #18 to #32 in its fifth week in release. And 10,000 B.C. fell from #21 to #28 in its ninth week in release.
