As a precursor to the New York Anime Festival—which will be this September in the Jacob Javits Convention Center—the organizers are sponsoring “Lolita and Maid Fashion Day” at New York City’s Kinokuniya Bookstore. The full day of events will by 7 June 2008 at the store (1073 Avenue of the Americas in Manhattan.
As NYAF Show Manager Lance Festerman says, “Lolita and Maid fashion have quickly become two of the most prolific ambassadors of anime, manga, and Japanese culture in America, and the New York Anime Festival couldn’t be happier bringing these fashions to New York City—the fashion capital of the world.”
All day long, the store will offer 10% discounts to customers wearing a Lolita or Maid dress, or anime, manga, or video game costume. The Café Zaiya, on the second floor, will have a special menu of Lolita- and Maid-themed desserts. And all visitors to the store will be able to enter drawings for prizes from Del Rey Manga, the NYAF, and VIZ Pictures.
Some of the other events planned include free gift bags to the first 50 customers in costume (the store opens at 10AM); “An Introduction to Lolita and Maid Fashion” at 3PM; a reading from Maid Machinegun by Aaliyah at 4:30PM; and a screening of the film Kamikaze Girls at 5PM.
