Columbia Pictures buys film rights to Goosebumps

Film rights to R.L. Stine‘s seemingly unending children’s horror series, Goosebumps, have sold to Columbia Pictures. The series is published by Scholastic, and Scholastic Media President Deborah Forte will co-produce the film (or possibly films) with Neal Moritz (who produced I Am Legend, the series Tru Calling, and many others).
Mortiz said that acquiring the rights to the series “comes with an enormous responsibility to the fans who have grown up with these books and have very high expectations about how these beloved novels will be adapted.”
Scholastic Entertainment produced a television series based on the books, which ran for 74 episodes from 1995 to 1998, airing on the Fox Kids Network.
The books have sold more than 300 million copies worldwide in more than 32 languages.
