Michael Chabon sold film rights to The Yiddish Policemen’s Union to Columbia Pictures. The movie writing and directing team of Joel and Ethan Coen, along with producer Scott Rudin, have been attached to the project.
The book is the betselling detective story set in an alternate history where the post-WWII Jewish homeland was established in Alaska. The Jewish settlers are about to be displaced by US government’s plans to turn Sitka, Alaska, over to Alaskan natives.
This is Chabon’s third novel that Rudin is bringing to the silver screen, following Wonder Boys, and the currently in-production adaptation of The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay.
The Coens are responsible for current Oscar nominee No Country for Old Men, and will move on to Chabon’s novel after they finish A Serious Man.
