Kameron Hurley sold a three-book series to Juliet Ulman at Bantam for about $10,000 per book. The first, to be titled God’s War, should be published in Fall 2009 (to be followed by the tentatively titled Black Desert and Babylon at yearly intervals). Hurley describes the book as a “weird, bloody, contaminated desert slash-and-hack adventure novel.”
She describes the full submission-and-sale process (very well, and engagingly) in this blog post. One of the reasons she’s most excited is that God’s War was originally rejected by another editor at Bantam, but then Ulman requested it, and made an offer within 24 hours.
