Actress Lois Nettleton died of complictions from lung cancer 18 January 2008. Born in Oak Park, Illinois, on 6 August 1929, she was a star on stage, television, and in the movies. In 1948, she was Miss Chicago and a semifinalist in the Miss America pageant.
Nettleton made her Broadway debut in 1949 in The Biggest Thief in Town. Her television debut came four years later.

Nettleton was married to radio host and author Jean Shepherd from 1961 until their divorce in 1967; they met when she called his show. She left no immediate survivors.
