Top Box Office Grossers: Third Week in December

Variety reports the top 25 movies for the week of 14-20 December in terms of box office take. Will Smith enhanced his box office legend by opening in the #1 spot with I Am Legend taking on more than $103 million. The Golden Compass dropped from #1 to #3 (behind Alvin and the Chipmunks), grossing $12.5 million for a two-week total of $44.4 million. Enchanted is down from #2 to #4, taking in $7.9 million for a four-week total of $94.2 million. Fred Claus held the #6 spot for a third week, bringing in $3.1 million for a six-week total of $69.8 million.
Beowulf dropped hard, from #3 to #12, grossing $2.2 million for a five-week total of $80.0 million. Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium was down from #13 to #17, earning $970 thousand for a five-week total of $30.4 million. The Mist dropped from #10 to #18, grossing $840 thousand, for a four week total of $25.2 million. Re-release The Polar Express finds itself in the top 25 for a second week, up from #23 to #20, taking in $530 thousand for a 162-week total of just under $178 million.
