Eaton Conference to Chronicle Mars

The Eaton Conference will be held at the University of California, Riverside, 16-18 May 2008. The conference, titled “Chronicling Mars,” will feature the first Eaton Award for Lifetime Achievement in Science Fiction, academic papers and panel discussions, a writing contest, and a poetry reading.
The full program isn’t set yet, but program participants they expect include Greg Bear, Greg Benford, Ben Bova, David Brin, Howard V. Hendrix, Geoffrey A. Landis, Frederik Pohl, and Kim Stanley Robinson, and special guest Ray Bradbury. The writing contest will feature a first prize of $500 ($250 for second prize), but it’s only open to UC students. Early registration is $110 for the full conference ($55 per day; $20 for students); on-site registration will be $125 ($75; $25). More details, as they become available, should be posted on the conference’s web site.
