Actress Jeanne Bates died of breast cancer on 28 November 2007. Born 21 May 1918 in Berkeley, California, she began her acting career on radio soap operas. She was the lead on Whodunit, and supplied the scream by which it was known. She also married Whodunit‘s writer, Lew X. Lansworth, in 1943.
Her film debut was in The Chance of a Lifetime (1943), and she was the heroine in the 1943 serial The Phantom (which starred Tom Tyler).
Her genre roles included roles in Initiation: Silent Night, Deadly Night 4 (1990), Mom (1990), Eraserhead (1977), Gus (1976), Topper Returns (1973), The Stranger (1973), The Strangler (1964), Back from the Dead (1957), The Soul of a Monster (1944), and The Return of the Vampire (1944). Her genre television appearances include: Hard Time on Planet Earth (1989), Wonder Woman (1978), and The Twilight Zone (1961).
Her husband died in 1981.
