Bud Sparhawk: around the genre, around the world

Bud Sparhawk sold a five novella series to Jim Baen’s Universe, which they expect to start publishing in August 2008. Sparhawk’s Nebula-award finalist, “Primrose and Thorn” (which appeared in the May 1996 issue of Analog Science Fiction and Fact) will be the third in the series (the other four are new). The first in the series, “The Super,” is based on the The Vendée Globe, a single-handed round-the-world sailing race.
Additionally, Sparhawk’s short story “Bright Red Star,” which originally appeared in the March 2005 issue of Asimov’s Science Fiction has been translated and appears in the October 2007 issue of Sci-Fi Magazin, a new Romanian science fiction magazine. Other authors in the issue include Cory Doctorow, Matthew Hughes, George Lazar, Ursula K. Le Guin, Ken Liu, William Sanders, and Will Shetterly.
Sparhawk has also written the chapter on humor for Dragon Moon Press‘s forthcoming The Complete Guide to Writing SF: Volume 1—First Contact. Editor David Law asked him to write the chapter after hearing Sparhawk’s speech to the Library of Congress several years ago.
And finally, Wildside Press will be publishing his novel Vixen in mass market paperback sometime in the first half of 2008.
