Top Box Office Grossers: Fourth Week of August

Variety reports the top 25 movies for the week of 24-30 August in terms of box office take. Interesting datum: the three top movies that opened this week opened as #4, #5, and #6 (Rush Hour 3, Mr. Bean’s Holiday, and War), behind movies open two, four, and three weeks (Superbad, The Bourne Ultimatum, and Rush Hour 3, respectively). The top genre film is Stardust, which dropped from #5 to #8 in its third week in release. This week, it grossed $5.5 million for a total of $28.0 million. The Invasion dropped from #6 to #10, grossing $4.2 million to pull its total to $12.6 million.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix dropped out of the top 10 in its seventh week in release, down from #9 to #11, and grossed $3.4 million to bring its total up to $284.3 million. Underdog dropped faster, from #8 to #12 with $3.3 million, bringing its total up to $37.7 million. Transformers is down from #16 to #19, bringing in $1.6 million to bring its eight-week total up to $309.0 million. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End pulled itself back into the top 25, actually to #25 this week (after dropping to #38 last week). This week, it grossed another $460 thousand (three times its box-office gross the previous week) to bring its 14-week total to $308.3 million.
Evan Alimghty dropped #22 right out of the top 25.
