Variety reports the top 25 movies for the week of 31 August-6 September in terms of box office take. New horror flick Halloween opened in the top spot, grossing $34.2 million. Stardust which was #8 last week, dropped to #10 this week, grossing $4.8 million, bringing its four-week total to $32.8 million.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix continued its steady decline, down from #11 to #13 in its eighth week in release. This week, the film grossed $2.9 million, pushing its total to $287.2 million. Underdog, last week’s #12, was this week’s #14, taking in $2.5 million for a five-week total of $40.2 million. Transformers held steady at #19, this week grossing $1.7 million (a little more than last week), for a nine-week total of $310.8 million. The biggest drop this week was The Invasion, which plummeted from #10 to #20, grossing $1.7 million in its third week in the theatres, bringing its total to $14.3 million.
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End fell out of the top 25 for a second time (see last week’s article).
