Far be it from us to let a good bandwagon get away, especially when it’s one that, like a rising tide, should help the entire field we cover. So without any further ado (or cliches; sorry about that), SFScope would like to point our readers to and endorse Douglas Cohen’s short genre fiction subscription drive.
Cohen is the assistant editor of Realms of Fantasy, but his plan is explicitly and emphatically not solely about his magazine. He takes as his rallying cry the fact that circulation for nearly all the genre magazines is on the decrease, and he’s asking readers (and writers, and everyone else) to help keep the field alive by subscribing to a magazine. He notes that, prior to writing his missive, he subscribed for a year of Interzone.
Cohen’s full explanation and call is on this page. And SFScope is interested: if you join the throng and order a new subscription (or even pick up a few magazines at your local magazine purveyor), let us know. If there’s a significant response, we’ll be sure to let you know.
