Character actress Ruth Kettlewell died 17 July 2007 of natural causes. Born Ruth Anne Berry in Worcester, England, on 12 April 1913, she started acting after her marriage in 1932. Her husband, the Rev. Robert Kettlewell, was the vicar of the North Yorkshire village of Great Ayton. She was given away by her uncle because her father was performing the ceremony.
She started acting with a local repertory company, before joining the Women’s Land Army during World War II. Her husband contracted scarlet fever while working as an Army chaplain, and died after the war. She never married again.
Her first film role was in 1958’s Room at the Top. Her genre roles included appearances in television programs such as Tales of the Unexpected (1984) and Out of the Unknown (1969).
