Top Box Office Grossers: Fourth Week of June

Variety reports the top 25 movies for the week of 22-28 June in terms of box office take. If you consider Evan Almighty to be a fantasy comedy, a genre picture once again tops the list (it earned $45.5 million in its first week). Number 2 is definitely a genre film: 1408, which earned $29.8 million in its first week. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer dropped to #3 (earning $28.3 million for a total of $105.8 million after only two weeks in release). Other genre films in the top spots include Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (which dropped from #4 to #6), grossing $10.9 million this week, for a total of $290.7 million). Shrek the Third dropped from #6 to #8, grossing $8.9 million ($311.1 million total).
After 8 weeks in the theatres, Spider-Man 3 dropped out of the top ten. This week, it was down to #12, taking in $1.8 million (for a total of $333.1 million). Hostel: Part II dropped from #8 to #14 and grossed $1.4 million to give it a $17.4 million total. 28 Weeks Later, a scant 7 weeks after its release, is down to #22, grossing a meager $181 thousand this weeek for a total of $28.3 million. Disturbia is #23 in its 11th week, taking in $172 thousand to total $78.6 million. And coming in at #25 is 300, which grossed $147 thousand in its 16th week for a total take of $210.4 million.
