The International Thriller Writers Association (ITW) is giving Tom Doherty its first Silver Bullet Award, recognizing “outstanding achievement in the promotion and advancement of literacy.”
Doherty, the president and publisher of Tor/Forge Books, will be the first publisher ever honored with this special award at the 5 May “Brunch & Bullet” luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich in Old Greenwich, Connecticut. Others scheduled honorees include famed children’s author R.L. Stine and Pitney-Bowes.
The Brunch & Bullet luncheon events, sponsored by the International Thriller Writers Association, were conceived as a way to help raise money for local Reading Is Fundamental chapters in the host cities and regions. Seventeen ITW member authors, including Stephen Coonts, Heather Graham, Doug Preston, Lincoln Child, F. Paul Wilson, and Joe Finder, will be attending the event on Saturday 5 May to enjoy lunch with their fans and to support Reading Is Fundamental, which will receive a portion of the proceeds.
A relatively new literary organization, the International Thriller Writers was formed after a June 2004 thriller conference hosted by the Poisoned Pen. Enthused by the successful conference, the attendees were motivated to create an organization—the ITW—for thriller writers, reviewers, and general enthusiasts. It now has more than 500 members.
