The Associated Press has reported that, two weeks after its publication, J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Children of Húrin has more than 900,000 copies in print worldwide. This number is nearly twice the original print runs, according to the US publisher Houghton Mifflin.
The book was published on 17 April, and since then, Houghton Mifflin has increased its printing from 250,000 to 550,000. At the same time, British publisher HarperCollins upped its print run from 250,000 to 360,000.
The new book is a prequel to The Lord of the Rings that Tolkien started in 1918, but never finished. His son Christopher recently finished it.
