Radio Theater Presents King Kong Live On Stage

Radio Theatre is a live troupe that is currently performing King Kong at the Red Room Theater. Radio Theatre’s productions are a cross between live stage performances and radio plays, and as they say of themselves: “Only Radio Theatre can present this monumental yarn of grand adventure live on stage like never before: complete with an original orchestral score and a plethora of sound effects that turn the theater itself into an environmental experience! Just bring your imagination!”
Describing this particular production, Radio Theatre notes: “What kind of story is it? Well, I guess you can say it’s a love story. Yeah, a heart-rending love story. It’s about a king of a faraway land and his unrequited love for a beautiful damsel and how that love leads him to his downfall.
“Journey with us as we take you from the streets of Depression Era New York City to the high seas of the Far East to the prehistoric jungles of Skull Island! Witness the terrifying creatures from another time battle the great and mighty Kong! And, be there when the proud giant is captured and brought back to civilization where he escapes from his chains to wreak havoc upon our world! All for the love of a woman!”
The show is written, directed, and sound designed by Radio Theatre founder Dan Bianchi under a license from the Merian C. Cooper Estate. The cast includes Patrick Flynne, Tom Lacey, Patrick O’Connor, Karyn Plonsky, Cash Tilton, and Mark Vance. The Sound Engineer is Wes Shippee.
King Kong is on stage now at the Red Room Theater, 85 East 4th Street (between Second and Third Avenues) in New York City. Performances are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8PM and Sunday at 2PM through 10 June. Tickets are $20 and are available from smarttix.com or by calling 212-868-4444.
Radio Theatre’s next scheduled show will be The H.G. Wells Science Fiction Festival—which will include adaptations of The Time Machine, The Invisible Man, The War of the Worlds, and The Island of Dr. Moreau—which will be in New York’s 59E59 Theater 10 October-4 November.
