Naomi Novik Wins Compton Crook Award

Naomi Novik is the winner of this year’s Compton Crook Award for His Majesty’s Dragon (published in the UK as Temeraire). The award is given by the Baltimore Science Fiction Society for an author’s first solo science fiction, fantasy, or horror novel.
The award was announced on 25 May during opening ceremonies for this year’s Balticon science fiction convention.
The Compton Crook award has been given out every year since 1983, and the full list of winners is available on this page.
The fourth of the award rules states “No title is eligible if the author has previously won an award from any Canadian, UK, British Commonwealth, former British Commonwealth or US organization for any English language novel.” His Majesty’s Dragon was a finalist for this year’s Nebula Award, and is a finalist for the Hugo.
