The deadline for applications for this year’s Science Fiction Writers Workshop at the University of Kansas’s Center for the Study of Science Fiction is 1 June. The workshop will run from 25 June to 5 July, and as always, will be immediately followed by the Campbell Conference (6-8 July). The Campbell Conference, among other things, awards the Campbell and Sturgeon Awards.
The Workshop “is intended for writers who have just begun to sell or who need that final bit of insight or skill to become a published writer. Preferred length is the short story (10,000 words or less), though writers frequently turn in short-shorts (shorter than 3,000 words) and longer works.” As always, recently named Grand Master James Gunn leads the workshop. This year, Fred Pohl and Elizabeth Ann Hull will be guest reviewers on the final day of the workshop. Workshop mainstays Kij Johnson and Chris McKitterick will be present for the entire two weeks.
Tuition for the workshop is $400, and dorm rooms are available for attendees. For full application details, see this page.
