The Sci Fi Channel reports that, according to Variety, Frank Schatzing’s novel The Swarm has sold to become a feature film. “Dino and Martha De Laurentiis will partner with a trio of German producers to turn [the novel] into a big-budget ecological disaster film.” It will be a co-productions between the De Laurentiises and German producers Michael Souvignier, Ica Souvignier, and Till Gronemeyer. Ted Tally will be writing the adaptation.
The book tells the story of “an alien presence that exists quietly on the ocean floor and is compelled to destroy humanity after its ecosystem is disrupted by pollution.Scientists race to stave off an apocalypse.” It was a best-seller in Germany and elsewhere in Europe, but didn’t sell well in the US.
