2006 Bram Stoker Award winners announced by Horror Writers Association

The Horror Writers Association presented the winners of the 2006 Bram Stoker Awards on 30 March 2007 at the World Horror Convention held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The winners are:
Novel: Lisey’s Story by Stephen King
First Novel: Ghost Road Blues by Jonathan Maberry
Long Fiction: Dark Harvest by Norman Partridge
Short Fiction: “Tested” by Lisa Morton
Fiction Collection: Destinations Unknown by Gary Braunbeck
Anthology (tie): Retro Pulp Tales edited by Joe Lansdale
Mondo Zombie edited by John Skipp
Nonfiction (tie): Final Exits: The Illustrated Encyclopedia of How We Die by Michael Largo
Gospel of the Living Dead: George Romero’s Vision of Hell on Earth by Kim Paffenroth
Poetry Collection: Shades Fantastic by Bruce Boston
Speciality Press Award: PS Publishing
Lifetime Achievement Award: Thomas Harris
In explaining the Stokers, the Horror Writers Association notes that “to ameliorate the competitive nature of awards, the Stokers are given ‘for superior achievement,’ not for ‘best of the year,’ and the rules are deliberately designed to make ties fairly probable.”
