The Washington Science Fiction Association (WSFA) has announced the creation of the WSFA Small Press Award. The award will go to an “original short fiction work (20,000 words or fewer) of imaginative literature (e.g., science fiction, fantasy, horror, speculative fiction or like literature) published by a small press.” To be eligible, works must have been published in books or periodicals produced by the small press in the preceding year. Submissions must be received electronically by 1 May this year, although in future years, the deadline will be 1 March. A committee of five WSFA members will screen all entries to produce a list of 5-10 finalists, which will be voted on by the members of WSFA. The award will be presented at WSFA’s annual Capclave, which is held in October in the Washington, DC, area.
