Four Oscars Go to Genre Films

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the winners of their 79th annual Academy Awards (the “Oscars”) tonight. Only two genre films won awards: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, which won for Best Achievement in Visual Effects; and El Laberinto del Fauno (English translation: Pan’s Labyrinth), which won for Best Achievement in Cinematography, Best Achievement in Makeup, and Best Achievement in Art Direction.
