Mars Attacks again in new Topps Cards series

A press release from Famous Monsters:marsattacks19

Mars Attacks: Invasion is a revival of the original card series from 1962, bringing us some great artwork from the industry’s best, including Earl Norem, Joe Jusko, Ed Repka, Sanjulian (FM #266), Glen Orbik, Greg Staples, Rafael Gallur, Dave Palumbo, Eric Wilkerson, Alex Horley, James Nelson, and Dan Brereton.

You knew we were never completely safe. The world is under attack again, and this time it’s in the form of Topps Cards’ Mars Attack: Invasion series. Invasion is a revival of the original card series from 1962, which propels collectors into the story of an alien invasion of Earth and the destruction/chaos that ensues in the form of seriously pretty, bloody, and pulpy artwork from some of the industry’s best. Expect babes, robots, insects, and a heaping serving of flying saucers and domed martians, all coming this October from Topps. We have a few of exclusive images from the set, along with many examples of cards, in the gallery below.

The main set is made up of 95 cards, 58 of which are all new, never before seen, hand-painted story cards. There are several chase subsets, which include:

  • “Early Encounters,” cards depicting events that took place before the full flung invasion, in the 1930s-1960s
  • “Anatomy of a Martian”: An awesome transparent subset, featuring 6 clear cards that layer to form a fully fledged, all dangerous Martian soldier.
  • “Mars Attacks Masterpieces”: 5 brand spankin’ new stand alone art pieces
  • “Join The Fight”: 4 Propaganda poster cards from Steven Thomas.

Every box is guaranteed to include one original, hand drawn sketch card from a variety of artists, including “creator artists” like Alex Horley, Ed Repka, Eric Wilkerson and Dave Palumbo. Not only that, but randomly inserted into packs are original 1962 Mars Attacks! cards. Perhaps most exciting is the prospect of landing some of the limited number of autographed cards, signed by Len Brown (co-creator of Mars Attacks), Charlie Adlard (you may know him from The Walking Dead, but he was also the artist for the 1990′s Mars Attacks comic book), as well as some signed by actors from Tim Burton’s 1996 film.
