Ellen Datlow’s Fearful Symmetries now open to submissions

Editor Ellen Datlow reports that “today’s the day that Fearful Symmetries is open to submissions from all and sundry… so write something and submit.”fs_cover

Fearful Symmetries is an unthemed, all-original anthology of terror and supernatural fiction the Datlow is editing and ChiZine Publications is publishing next Spring.

Datlow says: “This is a non-theme, all original anthology of about 125,000 words of terror and supernatural horror. I’m looking for all kinds of horror, but if you’re going to use a well-worn trope, try to do something fresh with it. If you’ve read any volumes of The Best Horror of the Year, you’ll know that my taste is pretty eclectic, that I like variety, and that while I don’t mind violence, I don’t think it should be the point of a story. I don’t want vignettes but fully formed stories that are about something. I want to be creeped out.”

Payment is 7 cents per word for stories up to 10,000 words long (preference is stories up to 7,500 words).

Most of the book is already filled, but Datlow is opening up the remainder of the book to unsolicited submissions. She’s only reading for the month of May.

For more information, and to submit a story, see this page.
