2013 Campbell and Sturgeon Award Finalists

The finalists for this year’s Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award (for best short science fiction story published in 2012) and for this year’s John W. Campbell Memorial Award (for best science-fiction novel of 2012) have just been announced. The Awards will be presented during the Campbell Conference Awards Banquet. This year’s Campbell Conference will be held 13-16 June, as always, at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas.

The finalists for the Sturgeon Award are:

“Nahiku West” by Linda Nagata (Analog, October 2012)

“The Peak of Eternal Light” by Bruce Sterling (Edge of Infinity, Solaris)

In addition, “Close Encounters” by Andy Duncan was also nominated, but the author, who is also a juror, removed the story from consideration.

Nominations are accepted from editors and short sf reviewers. The winner will be chosen from the nominees by the Sturgeon Award Jury, consisting of of Elizabeth Bear, Andy Duncan, James Gunn, Kij Johnson, George Zebrowski, and Noël Sturgeon.

The jury, which will choose the winner from among the finalists, is composed of: Gregory Benford, Paul Di Filippo, Sheila Finch, James Gunn, Elizabeth Anne Hull, Paul Kincaid, Christopher McKitterick, Pamela Sargent, and T.A. Shippey.
