Visions of Oz — a Celebration of Art from Over the Rainbow

The Heritage Square Museum in Los Angeles, California, is hosting a month-long show entitled “Visions of Oz: A Celebration of Art from Over the Rainbow.”  The show opens on March 3, and runs through the 31st.VisionsofOzThumb2

Of the show, the museum writes “In 1900, author L. Frank Baum and illustrator W.W. Denslow published The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, spawning a universe that has delighted and inspired generations with a multitude of books, movies and stage plays for well over a century.

“On March 3rd, 2013, Creature Features pays tribute to this enduring universe with Visions of OZ — A Celebration of Art from Over the Rainbow, a multi-media gallery exhibit showcasing over 100 works of art from artists in the fields of film & TV, children’s book illustration, fine art and comics.”

Scheduled participants include: Deanna Rene Adona, Martin Astles, William Basso, Louie Becker, Alexis Brandow, Michael Broom, Tim Bruckner, Felideus Bubastis, Andrea Coleman, Bruce Collins, Sandy Collora, Ricardo Delgado, Eric Diaz, Dienzo, Frank Dietz, Christopher Dombos, Dave Dorman, Archer Doughtery, Mike Dubisch, Jel Ena, Tess Fowler, Cutter Hays, Mike Hill, Michael W. Kaluta, Brian Kesinger, Doug Klauba, Don Lanning, Tony Lombardo, Casey Love, Gregory Manchess, James McPherson, Tony McVey, Christopher Miller, Kamila Mlynarczyk, Christopher Moeller, Ken Morgan, Nick Marra, Jezabel Nekranea, Bill Nelson, Mark A. “This unprecedented month-long event will feature work from a wide range of media, including illustrations, paintings, sculptures, and even full-sized recreations of some of your favorite characters from the beloved 1939 MGM musical starring Judy Garland.

“The event will also showcase a dazzling display of historical memorabilia, including rare editions of the original Baum books, concepts and artwork from various unproduced Oz-themed film & TV projects, props from the many film adaptations, including Disney’s upcoming OZ — The Great and Powerful and many more surprises.”

The exhibit opens on Sunday, March 3rd from 12 noon to 4:30pm at the Heritage Square Museum, 3800 Homer Street, Los Angeles, California, and runs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday thru March 31st. For more details, see this page.
