Co-editors Darryl Knickrehm and David Rees-Thomas write with news of Waylines, a new online speculative fiction and film magazine that they’re launching. They write “We are working on issue one right now (coming out in January) and are setting up the magazine at http://www.waylinesmagazine.com. In addition to publishing science-fiction, fantasy and horror fiction we will stream a short genre film in each issue. We already have some special guests lined up for interviews and have a lot of surprises planned. We were thinking that SF Scope followers might be interested in some of the stories and films we hope to publish, so we’re writing to let you know.”
On the web site, they note “Our goal is to capture the ‘bang’ in speculative fiction—that old-fashioned, mindbending, wow factor. As such, we aren’t limiting ourselves to a specific style of story or even media format. So we are taking advantage of our web setup and, in addition to publishing four stories an issue, we will also stream a short speculative film. And that’s just the beginning. We’ve got a lot of ideas in the works to find that ‘bang,’ so prepare to be blown away.”
They’re open to fiction submissions, stories from 1,000 to 7,500 words (their sweet spot is around 5,000 words), for which they’re paying $40 flat per story. They’re also open to film submissions, but not paying for them. Full guidelines are on this page.
Rees-Thomas is a graduate of Clarion West and a former managing editor at Ideomancer Magazine. Knickrehm is a director/writer with seven short films under his belt. Both have ties to Japan.
