Fan and musician Susan Palermo-Piscitello dies

An obituary from James H. Burns:
Longtime fan Susan Palermo-Piscitello passed away at the age of 59 on November 23, after a nearly year-long battle with cancer. Going way back to the early 1970s Susan was a New York area fan (always unique for her good looks and vivacity!), who went on to become one of the first bartenders at the legendary punk rock club CBGBs, and formed what was called the very first all-women New Wave rock band, Cheap Perfume. (The group actually starred in a fumetti in Marvel Comics’ Crazy magazine! Susan had also shot photos for one of the very first articles on Marvel Comics to ever appear in the newsstand press, for The Monster Times, in 1972). Susan also worked for years for Sandy Frank Productions, the American company that imported such Japanese science fiction movies and television series as Battle of the Planets, and Time of the Apes. There was a long time-off from conventions as Susan became a suburban Mom (while still working for Frank), but when she returned some time ago, it was often accompanied by her now teenage daughter! In the last few years, Susan, now known as “Suzie Palermo” became active in acting and scoring music for ultra-low-budget independent horror videos. She is survived by her fiance, Edward X. Young, children Bart and Rita, and grandson Tyler.
