Author Jay Lake is battling cancer and undergoing chemotherapy. A few days ago, he noticed that he could see more of his scalp through his famously long mane of hair than he liked, and decided the proper thing to do was to show off the entire scalp. But being Jay Lake, he didn’t simply go into the bathroom and shave his head. He made a production out of it. Being Jay, and being something of a performer, there is a photo set, almost a vertical flip book, of his hair being cut down from flowing mane through various interesting (and frightening) styles all the way to the scalp.
