Lightspeed Magazine, which is scheduled to debut this June, is now open to submissions. Editor John Joseph Adams, who will be handling the fiction at the magazine, has released his guidelines. He's looking only for science fiction stories (fantasy should be sent to the magazine's sister publication, Fantasy Magazine).
Adams isn't being very limiting in his guidelines, asking for "All types of science fiction… from near-future, sociological soft sf, to far-future, star-spanning hard sf, and anything and everything in between. No subject should be considered off-limits, and we encourage writers to take chances with their fiction and push the envelope." He wants stories between 1,000 and 7,500 words, with a preference for pieces 5,000 words or fewer, and he's paying five cents per word.
