Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 26 June-2 July 2009. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen maintained its top spot, after being open for only two days last week. This week, it took took in $159.8 million, for a box-office total (of slightly more than one week) of $250.9 million. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, which, again, was open less than a full week (it opened on the 1st), managed to grab the #4 spot on the charts, grossing $24.9 million. Up slipped down from #4 to #5, taking in another $21.1 million, for a five-week total of $258.3 million. Year One fell from #5 to #8, grossing $9.5 million, for a two-week total of $36.0 million. Night at the Museum: Battle Smithsonian was down from #7 to #10, earning $5.9 million, for a six-week total of $165.7 million.
Star Trek was down from #8 to #11, bringing in $5.4 million, for an eight-week total of $248.0 million. Land of the Lost fell from #9 to #13, taking in $1.7 million, for a four-week total of $47.3 million. Angels & Demons slipped from #12 to #14, grossing $1.6 million, for a seven-week total of $130.8 million. Termination Salvation was down from #11 to #15, grabbing another $1.6 million, for a six-week total of $122.4 million. Imagine That dropped from #10 to #16, earning $1.4 million, for a three-week total of $14.5 million. Drag Me to Hell was down from #12 to #17, dragging in $850 thousand, for a five-week total of $40.8 million. Monsters vs. Aliens, which last week fell out of the top 25, this week returned, all the way up to #18; it brought in $700 thousand, for a fourteen-week total of $196.3 million. X-Men Origins: Wolverine fell from #15 to #21, taking in $500 thousand, for a nine-week total of $178.0 million.
17 Again (last week's #19), The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (last week's #22), and Race to Witch Mountain (last week's #25) all fell out of the top 25, after eleven, nine, and sixteen weeks, respectively.
