We’re introducing a new, occasional feature here on SFScope: our graphically comic view of the worlds of speculative fiction. Graphicles shouldn’t be taken too seriously (though we will strive for accuracy when there actually is data available). And we’re open to your suggestions or submissions, whether you want to create one yourself, or just have an idea you’d like us to graphicle-ize, let us know (use the “Contact Us” link above, or leave a comment). And a tip of the hat to Ed Pell who put this particular bug in our bonnet.
To kick things off, we’re offering two Graphicles (see next post, as well), but we expect no more than one a day in the future. So, we now present:
Should not Pippin be significantly taller than Merry?
Well, I could correct it, or I could just say “height when they reached adulthood, regardless of what happened later in their lives”. Being lazy and in a rush today, I’ll go with the latter, but thanks for noticing.
Galadriel should be in there…she (and Celeborn) are like 6’4″ from the endless notes and appendices.

I am loving this chart’s combination but I have to wonder – why not drop Boromir, Merry and Pippin in favor of a few of the best Miles characters?
Say, Taura, Bothari, a quaddie, and Gregor’s shoe?

But (in book canon, at least) Pippin had yet to reach adulthood at the time of the events of LOTR — he was 27, and hobbits become adults at the age of 33.
