A review of D.I.Y. Dentistry by Andy Riley

D.I.Y. Dentistry… and Other Alarming Inventions by Andy Riley
Plume, $11.00, 112pp, tp, 9780452290037. Humor.

I fell in love with British cartoonist Andy Riley's work through his earlier books, The Book of Bunny Suicides, Return of the Bunny Suicides, and Great Lies to Tell Small Kids (which is by no means his entire oeuvre). Now he's back with some truly twisted and demented inventions in D.I.Y. Dentistry.

There isn't much plot to this book (okay, absolutely none), and the characters are two-dimensional at best (his deceptively simple line-art is both minimalist and fully descriptive), but it's great for a laugh, and it doesn't grow stale on a second or third perusal.

Especially for sf fans, be sure to check out his "Glitterballs for Goth Nightclubs", "Unicorn Storage Rack", "Halloween Fun", "Folk Tales", and "The Godzilla Experience".

Recommended.
