HarperCollins UK selling electronic Tolkien, offering chance to win limited print editions

By Ian Randal Strock

Publishers Lunch is reporting that HarperCollins UK has acquired worldwide electronic rights to all of J.R.R. Tolkien's work. They've already launched Tolkien: The Official Online Bookstore, which already has The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings (both collectively and individually), and The Children of Húrin available. Prices range from £4.86 for The Hobbit to $pound;5.56 for the other single titles, to £13.90 for the complete LotR trilogy.

The Legend of Sigurd & Gudrún, The Silmarillion, and Unfinished Tales will go on sale 5 May, "with further titles later in the year."

HarperCollins UK is the British print publisher of Tolkien, and the new site is currently accepting pre-orders for a leather-bound edition of The Legend of Sigurd & Gudrún, which will be limited to 500 copies and available 5 May. The limited edition is priced at £350, but pre-orders are currently selling at £250.

They're also offering a chance to win the limited edition Legend…, as well as a copy of the limited edition Children…, and a Sony eReader through a competition. See the new Online Bookstore for a link to enter.
