Actress Marilyn Chambers Dies

By Kit Hawkins

Actress Marilyn Chambers was found dead in her Santa Clarita, California, home on 12 April 2009; the cause of death has not yet been determined, but foul play is not suspected. She is generally accepted to have been born 22 April 1952 in Westport, Connecticut, with the name Marilyn Ann Briggs, although the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office could confirm none of that. Chambers found fame as both the cover girl on the Ivory Soap box, and as the store of the pornographic film Behind the Green Door (1972).

Prior to Green Door, she had aimed for a legitimate film career, and did eventually find some roles outside of adult films. Her first screen appearance was in the Barbra Streisand-George Segal film The Owl and the Pussycat (1970). She had a few genre roles, including parts in: Rabid (1977), Angel of H.E.A.T. (1983), and Fantasies Vol. 1 (1995).

She was married three times, and is survived by her daughter, McKenna Marie Taylor, as well as a brother and a sister.
