Clete Smith sells film rights to Grandma's Intergalactic Bed & Breakfast to Disney

New author Clete Smith has sold the film rights to his as-yet-unpublished YA novel Grandma's Intergalactic Bed & Breakfast. Agent Jody Hotchkiss, of Hitchkiss & Associates, managed the deal for film rights with purchaser Disney (the book itself hasn't yet found a publisher, but it is being represented by George Nicholson of Sterling Lord Literistic. The book is about a boy who spends the summer at his grandmother's B&B in Washington State, and discovers the it caters to vacationing aliens.
Publishers Weekly says that Smith has an MFA from Vermont College and has won a handful of screenwriting contests. PW also quotes Nicholson as saying Smith is a "promising comedic talent."
David Hoberman, who was part of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989) and the forthcoming Surrogates, is already attached to the project as a producer.
I was in Clete Smith's English class for two years (2009/10) and he is an excellent teacher and always very helpful. Funny too. And we were all very excited for him because he sold his story to Disney, and he would tell us all about it. I am definitely going to read his book. He is a knowledgeable man, and I can guarantee that his book is going to be a masterpiece.
