Arkham Tales publishes second free issue

By Ian Randal Strock

The second issue of Arkham Tales (dated February 2009) is now available. The free, quarterly pdf magazine is "devoted to 'weird' fiction: supernatural suspense and adventure stories informed by (though not imitative of) the pulp fiction of the early 20th century." It is offered in two formats: one optimized for reading on screen, and one optimized for printing.

Edited by Nathan Shumate, with the assistance of Crispin Burnham and Christopher Jackson, the 102-page issue contains:

Short Stories:
"Mi Morena" by K.S. Clay
"What Friends are For" by Dev Jarrett
"The Night Guest" by Jason Hardy
"Cthulhu's Nightmare" by Bric Barnes
"Compositions in Gratitude and Sorrow" by Bret Tallman
"A Curse in Any Language" by Matt Finucane
"Uncle Eric's Leather Bound Tale" by Catherine J. Gardner
"Some Nutcase" by John Jasper Owens
"Weather" by Diane Payne

Poetry:
"Drown" by K.S. Conlon

Novella:
"The Key Ring" by Garrett Calcaterra

Departments:
Editorial: "The Future Belongs to the Long Tail"
Contributor Notes

The cover art, "Knocking on Heaven's Door", is by Jean-Marc Velladier.

In addition to announcing the publication of this issue, Shumate writes that "we're closed to submissions for at least the next couple of issues, due to the volume of terrific submissions we've already gotten."
