Actor Philip Carey died 6 February 2009 of lung cancer. Born Eugene Joseph Carey on 15 July 1925 in Hackensack, New Jersey, he is probably best known for playing Texas oil tycoon Asa Buchanan on the soap opera One Life to Live from 1980 to 2007, with several guest appearances after that (most recently, on 29 December 2008).
Carey made his film debut in John Wayne's Operation Pacific (1951), and later went on to co-star in Tales of the 77th Bengal Lancers (1956-57), Philip Marlowe (1959-60), and Laredo (1965-67).
His genre roles, both film and television, include: Monster (1979), Crackle of Death (1976), The Bionic Woman (1976), Kolchak: The Night Stalker (1974), Scream of the Wolf (1974), The Time Travelers (1964), and Thriller (1961).
Carey studied drama at the University of Miami, and was a Marine during World War II and the Korean War. He is survived by his wife (Colleen), their two children (Shannon and Sean), three children from his previous marriage (Lisa, Linda, and Jeff), and three grandchildren.
