Confusion over the direction of first Tintin movie

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting some confusion over who will be directing the first Tintin film (of a planned trilogy) for DreamWorks. Hergé Studios (which owns the character) announced Tuesday that Peter Jackson will be directing the film, but Jackson's representatives, and those for Steven Spielberg, both say that Spielberg, the originally announced director, is still planning to do so. Jackson is still planning to direct the sequel, but he is expected to be a producer of the first film.
The first Tintin movie will be based on two books written by Hergé (the fellow who created the iconic Belgian character) in the early 1940s: The Secret of the Unicorn and Red Rackham's Treasure. It will be scripted by Steven Moffat (who recently won a Hugo for Doctor Who), and will be motion-capture animated. THR reports as fact the rumor that the film will star 18-year-old Thomas Sangster (Phineas and Ferb) as Tintin and Andy Serkis (Gollum in the Lord of the Rings trilogy) as his friend, Captain Haddock.
